This role is for CODE LEAP's client company - JTL-Software
JTL-Software is one of Germany's leading providers of e-commerce and ERP solutions. More than 50,000 retailers rely on JTL every day to run their business. Our global development center in Vietnam is looking for talented people to build the next generation of these products. You'll work in an international team that pairs German software quality and Vietnamese speed to innovate.
As Hands-On Engineering Manager / Tech Lead, you own the technical direction of the cross-functional team that owns two core platform areas: Managed ERP Hosting and the Documents Archive Solution. Together with your backend, frontend/fullstack, and DevOps engineers you drive our transformation towards modular architectures, modern APIs, and cloud-ready services. You ensure architectural integrity, mentor the team, drive engineering excellence - and still write production code yourself.
The team owns two core platform areas. Managed ERP Hosting is the on-demand provisioning and reliable operation of per-tenant ERP environments on Azure - a wizard-driven, message-based onboarding flow (Azure Service Bus with a provisioning orchestrator, secrets handled via Key Vault references) that today spins up Windows VMs with SQL Server and the Wawi tool chain, and is moving step by step towards Linux and Docker. The Documents Archive Solution (DAS) is JTL's GoBD-compliant archive for invoices and business documents: a greenfield service built as a React SPA plus a TypeScript backend (Bun / Effect) on Azure - with PostgreSQL, georedundant Blob storage, and an event-driven integration (CloudEvents) into the JTL Hub and the Managed ERP Panel.
This is a genuinely cross-stack team, so you are comfortable leading and contributing across both a .NET world and a modern TypeScript world.
You are the bridge between product, engineering, and stakeholders: you turn the Product Manager's requirements into a clear, well-estimated plan and make sure the team delivers against it reliably.
At JTL, AI-assisted development is not a nice extra - it is a core part of how we work. Our engineers use tools like GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, ChatGPT, and similar AI assistants every day. We expect you to either bring hands-on experience with these tools or demonstrate a clear, verifiable willingness to actively use them.

YOUR EXCITING TASKS
- You discuss the Product Manager's requirements with the team and break them down into epics and Jira tasks the team can execute against.
- You facilitate estimations together with the team and capture them on the corresponding Jira items.
- You own the plan: you track progress, ensure the team stays on plan, and keep it continuously up to date in Jira.
- Technical leadership and mentoring of the engineering team - guiding architectural decisions, code reviews, and best practices.
- Personnel responsibility: regular 1:1s, performance conversations, goal setting, and supporting personal development plans.
- Ownership of team delivery: sprint planning, backlog refinement, removing blockers, and ensuring reliable execution.
- Acting as the primary point of contact for Product Management, Release Management, and stakeholders on technical matters.
- Recruitment support: interviewing candidates and helping build out the engineering team.

Fostering a culture of quality, security, and continuous improvement within the team.
- Active development and code ownership across the stack - C#/.NET services and React/TypeScript frontends.
- Owning the technical direction of Managed ERP Hosting - the wizard-driven, message-based (Azure Service Bus) provisioning and reliable operation of per-tenant ERP environments on Azure.
- Owning the Documents Archive Solution (DAS) - JTL's GoBD-compliant archive for invoices and business documents, built as a React + TypeScript (Bun / Effect) service on Azure (PostgreSQL, Blob storage, Event Hub) and integrated into the Hub and Managed ERP Panel.
- Defining and evolving the technical architecture: modular design, REST and GraphQL APIs, cloud infrastructure (Azure), and data flows.
- Driving the roadmap for the cloud transformation - moving the ERP step by step from virtual machines onto Linux and Docker.
- Owning the roadmap for test automation, CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions), observability, and operational reliability.
- Evaluating and adopting AI-assisted development tools (GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor) to accelerate team productivity.
- Championing secure-by-design practices and maintainable, high-quality code across the entire stack.

Hands-on incident response and on-call escalation support together with the team.
- C# / .NET: several years of experience building production-grade backend services; ability to set architectural standards for the team.
- Node.js & TypeScript on the backend: solid experience building production-grade services in a modern typed Node.js / TypeScript stack (Bun, Effect, NestJS, or comparable) - the Documents Archive Solution runs on this stack.
- React / TypeScript on the frontend: solid experience with modern frontend development, state management, and component architecture.
- Relational databases: strong experience with PostgreSQL and/or Microsoft SQL Server.
- Microsoft Azure: hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure, App Services/Functions, Key Vault, and monitoring.
- CI/CD & DevOps: design and ownership of build, deployment, and release pipelines (GitHub Actions / Azure DevOps).
- Agile delivery: confident with breaking requirements down into epics and Jira tasks, estimating with the team, and keeping the plan up to date.
- Test automation: Jest, Playwright, or similar; champion of test strategy and quality across the team.
- Leadership experience: proven track record of leading engineers, running code reviews, and driving technical decisions in a team setting.
- AI-assisted development: productive, day-to-day use of tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or Cursor.
- Ability to understand and navigate complex, large-scale existing systems.

Excellent English communication skills, both written and spoken.
- Infrastructure as Code (Bicep, Terraform) and container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes / AKS).
- Event-driven architectures (Azure Service Bus / Event Hub, CloudEvents).
- GraphQL and API modernization at scale.
- Experience with compliance or audit-driven systems (e.g., GoBD or comparable record-keeping requirements).
- Experience with large-scale software modernization or monolith-to-modular initiatives.
- Background in ERP, e-commerce, or other complex enterprise domains.

Experience scaling engineering teams or transitioning from individual contributor to lead role.
- Strong communicator - able to switch between deep technical discussions and clear stakeholder communication.
