JOB DESCRIPTION

About EasyRx

EasyRx is a US healthcare technology product that changes how patients get their prescriptions. We connect patients, doctors, and local pharmacies to deliver cost-plus prescription fulfillment — cheaper, faster, and transparent about what things actually cost.

We are an in-house engineering team in Vietnam building for a US company. This is not outsourcing: we own the product, we make the technical calls, and we talk directly to the people who decide what gets built. Real users, real PHI, real HIPAA obligations.

Role Overview

You will own backend features on the EasyRx platform end-to-end — the Rails API that powers our patient mobile app (React Native) and our web applications (Next.js).

We build product here, not tickets. You'll get the problem and the constraints — then a real say in how it gets built: the data model, what ships first, what can wait, where something simpler would do. Those calls get made with the PM and the team, and your voice counts.

What You'll Do

Build and ship

  • Design, build and maintain Rails API features that serve our mobile and web clients
  • Work with PostgreSQL (schema design, query performance, migrations on live data) and background processing with Sidekiq/Redis
  • Build and maintain integrations with third-party services — pharmacy and prescription data, payments and subscriptions, notifications, telehealth flows
  • Write tests that let you and others change the code later without fear (RSpec/Minitest)
  • Take features to production: your work isn't done when the PR merges, it's done when it's deployed and working for users

Own the outcome, not the ticket

  • Break a project into pieces you can build, integrate and finish independently — instead of building "all the models, then all the controllers"
  • Get one thin slice working end-to-end early, so we learn what the real work is before we're out of time
  • Expect the spec to be incomplete. Half the tasks on any project are only discovered once you're inside the code. Finding them is part of the job, not a reason to stop.
  • Make trade-offs to hit the deadline: when time is fixed, scope is the variable. We would rather ship something smaller that works than something complete that's late.
  • Say clearly what is still unknown vs. what is just remaining work. "I don't know yet" is a completely acceptable status. "90% done" for three weeks is not.
  • Flag a rabbit hole the day you smell it, not the week before the deadline

Work with people, not through tickets

  • Go directly to the PM, designer, mobile and frontend engineers when you need a decision — don't sit blocked waiting for someone to notice
  • Review other people's code and have your own reviewed; disagree openly and settle it with reasoning
  • Push back on requirements when you see a simpler solution or a hidden cost. We want your judgment, not your compliance.

Handle PHI like it matters

  • Keep Protected Health Information out of logs, error reports and third-party services that aren't covered by a BAA
  • Follow our access control, encryption and audit logging practices; raise it when something looks wrong

Requirements
  • 3–5 years of professional backend experience, with at least 2–3 years building production Ruby on Rails applications — comfortable with Rails conventions and knowing when to break them
  • Strong PostgreSQL: you can read a slow query, understand an index, and design a schema that won't hurt in a year
  • Practical experience with background jobs (Sidekiq or equivalent) and Redis
  • Solid grasp of RESTful API design for mobile and web clients — versioning, pagination, error contracts, auth
  • You have shipped and maintained an application in production, not just built one — you've been on the hook when it broke
  • Automated testing as a habit, not an afterthought
  • Git and code review as part of your normal workflow
  • English good enough to read documentation, write clear technical explanations

Nice to Have
  • Healthcare, HIPAA, fintech or another regulated domain
  • AWS (ECS/Fargate, Lambda, RDS, S3), Docker, CI/CD with GitHub Actions
  • Elasticsearch/Searchkick, Sentry or similar observability tooling
  • Payment integrations (Stripe or similar), subscription billing, webhooks and idempotency
  • Experience in a small team where you had to figure things out without a senior to ask

The Kind of Person This Fits
  • You like knowing why you're building something, not just what
  • When you're stuck, you go ask — you don't sit quietly hoping it resolves itself
  • You're comfortable talking about a mistake you made and what you learned from it
  • You'd rather ship something working this month than something perfect next quarter
  • You're curious and you like getting better at your craft. Geeks and nerds are highly welcome

What We Offer
  • Competitive salary, based on your experience and level
  • Hybrid-friendly setup, with our team based in Đà Nẵng
  • Full Vietnamese employment benefits, including Social Insurance and Health Insurance based on your contracted salary
  • Real ownership of a product used by real patients in the US market
  • Direct access to the PM and the people making product decisions — short chain, fast answers
  • Realistic timelines and breathing room between releases. We don't run permanent crunch

Application Process
  • To keep our hiring process simple and respectful of your time, shortlisted candidates will receive a short screening form after applying.

If your profile is a good match, our team will contact you within 1–2 weeks.

  • Our process:

Short Screening Form → 15-min Intro Call → Technical Interview → Final Interview
