Job Summary

We are looking for a MEPF Design Engineer who can turn project requirements into practical, coordinated, and buildable engineering solutions. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys solving technical problems, working closely with designers and project teams, and finding the right balance between performance, buildability, cost, and long-term operation.

At Huynchi, MEPF engineering is not treated as a separate layer added after the design. It is part of creating a workplace that works well as a whole.

Key Responsibilities

Understand the project before engineering the solution

  • Understand the client’s requirements, workplace design intent, operational needs, building conditions, and project constraints.
  • Review existing site conditions, landlord requirements, base-building systems, and available technical information.
  • Identify technical risks and constraints early enough to influence better project decisions.
  • Participate in surveys, coordination meetings, and technical discussions with clients, consultants, landlords, and project teams when required.

Develop practical MEPF solutions

  • Develop MEPF design solutions appropriate to the project requirements and site conditions.
  • Prepare engineering layouts, calculations, specifications, schedules, and technical documentation.
  • Ensure systems are designed with consideration for performance, safety, comfort, efficiency, maintainability, and future operation.
  • Coordinate different building services to create integrated solutions rather than treating each system independently.
  • Apply relevant technical standards, codes, and project requirements throughout the design process.

Connect engineering with workplace design

A technically correct solution is not always the best project solution.

You will work closely with the workplace design team to understand what matters in the space and find engineering solutions that support the overall design intent.

This May Include

  • Integrating services with ceilings, lighting, partitions, furniture, and architectural elements.
  • Resolving technical requirements without unnecessarily compromising the user experience or design quality.
  • Supporting acoustic comfort, thermal comfort, indoor environmental quality, lighting performance, and operational reliability.
  • Helping the team make informed decisions when technical requirements, aesthetics, cost, and space compete with one another.

Design for buildability

  • Work closely with Technical Design, QS, Procurement, Project Management, and Site Teams.
  • Review proposed solutions against real site conditions and construction methods.
  • Resolve clashes, coordination issues, and technical constraints before they become site problems.
  • Support value engineering without compromising essential performance or project intent.
  • Review material and equipment submissions, shop drawings, samples, and technical proposals when required.
  • Provide technical support during construction and help resolve site issues quickly and responsibly.

Maintain design intent through delivery

  • Follow projects beyond the design stage and remain involved during construction
  • Review installation quality and compliance with approved technical solutions.
  • Participate in testing, commissioning, inspections, and handover activities where required.
  • Support the preparation and review of final technical documentation.
  • Capture lessons learned so future projects can be delivered better.

Engineering as part of Design & Build

At Huynchi, our designers, engineers, quantity surveyors, project managers, procurement teams, and site teams work as one integrated project team. We expect our MEPF engineers to think beyond their own technical discipline.

A change in one system may affect space planning, ceilings, finishes, cost, construction sequence, maintenance access, or the way people ultimately experience the workplace.

Good engineering therefore requires more than technical knowledge.

It requires the ability to understand context, communicate clearly, anticipate consequences, and work with other disciplines to find the best overall solution.

Technology, digital tools and AI

Technology is changing how engineering work is researched, calculated, coordinated, documented, and delivered. We do not define a capable engineer by a fixed list of software.

We are more interested in whether you can use appropriate professional and digital tools to solve problems accurately, communicate information clearly, coordinate efficiently, and improve project outcomes.

We also encourage our teams to explore practical applications of AI and emerging technologies.

These tools may support research, technical analysis, document review, coordination, quality checking, knowledge retrieval, reporting, and repetitive engineering tasks.

We value engineers who are curious enough to experiment with new tools, but disciplined enough to verify the results.

Technology should strengthen engineering judgment, not replace it.

Qualifications

You may be a strong fit for this role if you have:

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Relevant experience in MEPF design for commercial interiors, workplace, fit-out, or building projects.
  • A good understanding of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and related building systems.
  • Experience developing coordinated technical solutions from design through construction.
  • The ability to read and understand architectural, interior, structural, and technical documentation.
  • Familiarity with relevant codes, standards, authority requirements, and good engineering practice.
  • Experience using professional engineering and digital tools for design, calculation, coordination, and documentation.
  • Strong problem-solving and coordination skills.
  • The ability to communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Attention to detail and a strong sense of responsibility for the quality of your work.
  • The ability to work effectively in a fast-moving Design & Build environment.
  • Curiosity about new technologies, AI, and better ways of working.

Experience in workplace or commercial interior fit-out projects will be an advantage.
