JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary:

The Welding Engineer is responsible for designing, executing, and optimizing welding

processes to ensure structural integrity, quality, and compliance with international

standards. This role involves selecting appropriate welding techniques, establishing

welding procedures, troubleshooting manufacturing defects, and managing the

qualification of welding personnel.

Key Responsibilities

• Process Optimization & Implementation:

• Develop, evaluate, and improve welding methods including GMAW (MIG),

GTAW (TIG), SMAW (Stick), and Laser/Resistance welding.

• Design fixtures, tooling, and joint configurations to optimize production

efficiency and minimize distortion.

• Quality Assurance & Compliance:

• Establish and maintain Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and

Procedure Qualification Records (PQR).

• Ensure strict compliance with international engineering standards such as

AWS, ASME, and ISO.

• Oversee Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) methods (Visual, Magnetic Particle,

Liquid Penetrant, Radiographic, and Ultrasonic) to evaluate weld integrity.

• Troubleshooting & Continuous Improvement:

• Conduct root-cause analysis on weld failures, defects (e.g., porosity,

cracking), and production bottlenecks.

• Introduce automation and robotic welding systems where applicable to

enhance throughput and consistency.

• Cross-Functional Collaboration:

• Work closely with Design, Quality, and Production teams to review product

designs for weldability.

• Train, evaluate, and certify welders according to standard operating

procedures.

Qualifications & Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Welding Engineering, Materials Science,Metallurgy, or Mechanical Engineering.

• Certified Welding Engineer (CWEng) or International Welding

Engineer (IWE) preferred. Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) is a

strong plus.

• 3–5 years of hands-on experience in an industrial manufacturing, automotive, or heavy fabrication environment.

Technical Skills:

• Proficient in interpreting engineering drawings (GD&T) and welding

symbols.

• Experience with metallurgical analysis and failure mechanics.

• Familiarity with CAD software (SolidWorks/AutoCAD) and ERP/Quality tracking systems.
