We work closely with fast-moving, innovative startups across Australia—and now we’re looking for a skilled Senior Accountant to join our finance team and support this important function.

Role Overview

The Senior Accountant plays a critical role in maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and giving founders transparency over their numbers. You’ll be supporting our fractional CFOs to execute on strategic initiatives and financial oversight.

This role requires a high degree of accuracy, strong time management, and the ability to manage multiple client relationships while staying within the defined scope of services. It’s ideal for someone with over 5 years of bookkeeping experience, familiar with Australian bookkeeping practices, and comfortable using cloud accounting tools like QuickBooks or Xero. Bonus points if you’re agile and eager to adopt new AI tools and systems as we continue evolving.

Key Responsibilities

Perform day-to-day bookkeeping across a portfolio of clients.

Process accounts payable, including OCR invoice processing, approval workflow tracking, duplication checks, and exceptions reporting.

Request and maintain invoice records from clients to ensure accurate, complete data.

Reconcile bank transactions daily for each client file.

Record accounts receivable and reconcile payments, including weekly AR reports and exception follow-ups.

Closing period books and process month-end journals including accruals and prepayments, in line with accrual-based accounting standards.

Prepare Business Activity Statements (BAS) and Instalment Activity Statements (IAS) for review by Fractional CFO.

Process payroll on a fortnightly or monthly basis, including onboarding, terminations, and business-specific templates.

Support the Fractional CFO with timely data and documentation for client meetings and deliverables.

Perform ad hoc bookkeeping and reporting tasks as required across various clients.

Perform financial modelling and forecasting for the clients

Ensure best practices in bookkeeping are followed in line with Australian accounting and tax standards.

Skills and Experience

Minimum 3-5 years of accounting experience, ideally in a professional services capacity (working with multiple businesses)

Proven hands-on experience with Xero and Quickbooks (Xero essential)

Proficiency in excel and google a must

Familiarity with Australian compliance (GST, superannuation, BAS, IAS) or a fast learner

High level of attention to detail and accuracy

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Fluent in English, with a CEFR level of B2 or higher

Ability to manage multiple clients and stay organised across deadlines

Comfort using AI tools or capability to learn—we’re always innovating

Qualifications

University degree in Finance and Accounting

Chartered Accountant or CPA registered

Big4 background is a plus

Knowledge of IFRS

Xero Advisor certification (desirable but not required as you can get this accreditation online)

Working Environment & Benefits

4 day work week (we don’t work Fridays)

Guaranteed 13th month paycheck and productivity bonus

100% remote-first team with flexible work hours

Learn directly from experienced CFOs and startup advisors.

Outputs based - we focus on outputs not the time you sit at your desk

Positive, progressive culture open to learning and innovation

Exposure to a wide portfolio of fast-paced, interesting startups

Involvement in internal systems development and tech innovation projects.

Ideal for someone who wants hands-on experience with all moving parts of how to run a business

Career progression pathways offered for those who want to become Fractional CFO’s in the near future or even open up their own business under our brand.
