Your focus
The SEM Executive will be responsible for supporting paid search activities and helping improve the performance of search advertising campaigns.
You will work with campaign budgets, keywords, ad copy and performance data on a regular basis. The role involves both campaign execution and optimisation, with a strong focus on making informed decisions from performance results.
Key areas of responsibilitySearch campaigns
- Set up and manage paid search campaigns across relevant advertising platforms.
- Conduct keyword research and organise keywords according to campaign objectives and search intent.
- Develop and update search ad copy, extensions and related campaign components.
- Review search terms and identify opportunities for new keywords or negative keywords.
- Assist with landing page and campaign alignment to improve user experience and conversion potential.
Optimisation
- Monitor campaign performance and make adjustments to bids, budgets, keywords and targeting where appropriate.
- Review metrics such as impressions, clicks, CTR, CPC, conversions, CPA and ROAS.
- Identify underperforming campaigns, ad groups and keywords and recommend improvements.
- Conduct A/B testing on ad variations and other campaign elements.
- Look for opportunities to improve traffic quality and overall campaign efficiency.
Measurement & reporting
- Track campaign results using advertising platforms and analytics tools.
- Assist with conversion tracking and basic performance monitoring.
- Prepare regular campaign reports and highlight significant changes in performance.
- Translate campaign data into practical recommendations for the marketing team.
- Maintain accurate records of campaign activity, budgets and results.
Market research
- Monitor competitor search activity and advertising trends.
- Research changes in search behaviour, keywords and market demand.
- Keep up with relevant developments in paid search and digital advertising.
- Share useful observations with the wider marketing team.
What you should already know
Education
A Diploma or Degree in Marketing, Digital Marketing, Business, Communications or a related discipline is preferred.
Experience
- 1–3 years of experience in SEM, PPC, paid search or digital marketing.
- Practical experience working with Google Ads or a similar search advertising platform.
- Exposure to campaign reporting and performance optimisation.
Technical understanding
- Familiarity with keyword research and search advertising principles.
- Understanding of common paid search metrics such as CPC, CTR, CPA and conversion rate.
- Basic knowledge of Google Analytics / GA4 and Google Search Console.
- Experience with conversion tracking or Google Tag Manager will be an advantage.
- Comfortable using spreadsheets to organise and analyse campaign data.
Working approach
- Analytical and comfortable making decisions based on data.
- Careful when working with campaign settings, budgets and tracking.
- Organised enough to manage several campaigns or tasks at the same time.
- Able to explain campaign results clearly to non-technical colleagues.
- Willing to test, learn and adjust rather than relying on one fixed approach.
A typical workflow

You will be involved throughout this cycle rather than focusing only on campaign setup.
The successful candidate should enjoy working with numbers, spotting performance changes and figuring out what can be improved. Experience across other digital marketing channels is useful, but a solid interest in paid search and a willingness to develop further are equally important.
